At Refugee Aware, we aim to raise a generation of ambassadors who will act as representatives of the charity and use their position to highlight the difficult situations refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) go through everyday all over the world.
This will be done through a series of training and education programmes, which will even present topics on such areas as Asylum Policy, Forced Migration, International Human Rights Law, Refugee Law, the 1951 Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, and others in a fun and entertaining manner.
There are three dimensions to the programme:
- Child Ambassadors (5-8yrs)
- Junior Ambassadors (9-12yrs)
- Youth Ambassadors (14-16yrs)
It is our aim to establish Ambassador Clubs in schools. At club level, Ambassadors will share experiences and ideas and plan independent internal activities. At particular times during the year, the organisation will plan a convention that will bring all the Ambassadors together to encourage interaction, the sharing of ideas and the presentation of awards to outstanding groups or individuals.
Furthermore, there shall be a council of Ambassadors comprising of club leaders under the supervision of facilitators. They shall discuss ways of improving the overall programme and also address certain challenges. This kind of involvement at this level will further raise the image of the project as well as promote a sense of importance and self-worth among the Ambassadors.
